Certain repetitive actions can cause pain in the wrist and hand, such as typing on a keyboard, texting, driving a car, writing, lifting heavy items, working out, and much more. A common diagnosis is Carpal tunnel syndrome, which is an impingement on the median nerve in the area of the wrist that can cause numbness, tingling, and eventually pain or cramping in the hand. Strains and sprains can also cause wrist pain.
Some common treatments of the wrist/hand include:
- a combination of rest, heat or ice therapy and anti-inflammatory therapy
- manual therapy, including massage
- stretching, flexibility and strengthening exercises
